The project was done in collaboration with Stine Lassen and Marie Lyhne.
A workshop about making an existing nursing home in Aarhus a nicer and better place to be.
Our concept was to create an environment which could be more welcoming and feel secure, especially for the elderly people with dementia. We have tried to create connections with the life they have know from earlier, by working with their entrance as "the facade"and making it personalized. Adding to that is the hallway which we have worked with as "the street", with stoppoints, direction, picket fence and crawling plants on pergolas.
The living room is "the neighbourhood", and should be the place for everyone to gather but also where you can be alone, in the company with others.
Small steps as changing colors, markings of special zones and the possebility of creating a stronghold relation for elderly towards the nursing home, as been our main focus - It should be easy to introduce and with a low cost.

"The Neighbourhood" - common room

"Wall of memories" - pictures of each resident and of personal memories, to stimulate their lack of memory due to demensia.

"The street" - Hallways

The kitchen in the common room.

Clear form and open shelfs for better interaktion in the common area. Flower boxes on ground to divide "eating-zone" from "relaxing-zone".

"The Home" - personal entrance

Zonemarking, personal display, bench, plants and pergola.
