Competition proposal

"A new chair for the official Denmark"

Akademisk Arkitektforening

Sept. - Nov. 2010

The chair is designed in collaboration with Mette Risbæk.

A competition with a task to design a new chair for the official Denmark. The chair should be used at official events and should be placed on Christiansborg and Amalienborg at the galla hall.

The chair is inspired by danish history and tradition. The overall concept and form is inspired by the uniform of the royal danish lifeguards of the Queen. Medals and honors is what sets the soldiers apart, and from there comes the inspiration.

The chairs' material and construction is an expression of the danish design tradition, where craftmanship and quality is the keywords.

The chair is made out of three parts - The mainpart with the two front legs, the back and seating. When put together, they complete each other.

Besides the chair´s conceptidea and clear form, it expresses comfort and flexibility minded on the user.

We have worked with the chairs different expressions depending on from which side you see it. Theretoo comes how the chair is read depending on the context which it is in.

The simple construction gives the chair a clear expression. It is as standard performed in stukked oak, which enables the organic and playful forms of the wood.

The chair can be varied in expression, by adding polstery.

Inspiration from the uniform
